Marist Hoops Insider

Preview: Marist at Niagara

The conference season will resume on Thursday night when Marist goes on the road to take on Niagara. The game, both teams’ first of the new year, will be at 7:00 in Niagara’s Gallagher Center.

Niagara Purple Eagles
Record: 5-7 (1-1 MAAC)
Leading scorer: Antoine Mason (19.0 ppg)
Last game: Loss at Notre Dame, 89-67

Marist Red Foxes
Record: 4-9 (1-1 MAAC)
Leading scorer: Devin Price (14.3 ppg)
Last game: Loss vs. College of Charleston, 85-75

The Purple Eagles, led by head coach Joe Mihalich, are playing their first game in almost two weeks. Their offensive attack features the sophomore duo of Antoine Mason and Juan’ya Green, who account for nearly half (47.3 percent) of the team’s scoring. Green, the 2012 MAAC Rookie of the Year, is averaging 15.5 points and 4.6 assists per game. He has been named to the 2013 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year watch list. Mason was on last season’s MAAC All-Rookie team and is currently the second-leading scorer in the conference. Green and Mason each scored over 20 in an 89-77 loss at Marist last season.

Chuck Martin’s Red Foxes come in to the game on a three-game losing streak, having fallen to Bucknell, Hartford, and College of Charleston. Last time out, the Foxes got a team-leading 23 points from Chavaughn Lewis and a season-high 19 points off the bench from Dorvell Carter. Marist will look to get more of a contribution from center Adam Kemp, who hasn’t scored more than 10 points since the second game of the season and fouled out in 14 minutes with no points against Charleston.
