Game preview: Marist vs. St. Peter’s

The two teams that have struggled the most through the first part of the MAAC season will meet in the McCann Arena on Saturday night, as the Marist Red Foxes host the St. Peter’s Peacocks at 7:00 p.m.

St. Peter’s Peacocks
Record: 6-11 (1-6 MAAC)
Leading scorer: Desi Washington (14.7 ppg)
Last game: Loss vs. Rider, 66-54

Marist Red Foxes
Record: 4-14 (1-6 MAAC)
Leading scorer: Devin Price (14.6 ppg)
Last game: Loss at Loyola, 72-58

St. Peter’s and Marist each come in needing a win, as they find themselves tied for last place in the MAAC. The Red Foxes will be looking to break an eight-game losing streak, while St. Peter’s is in a five-game slide of its own and have lost eight of its last 11 games. Two players from each squad average in double-figures for points per game. The Peacocks’ leading scorer is guard Desi Washington, a sophomore transfer. Washington is a three-point threat, with 43 made threes on the year, 33 more than any of his teammates. Yvon Raymond, also a guard, averages 10.6 points and a team-leading 5.2 rebounds per game.

Marist has won the last three matchups with the Peacocks, including a 64-57 victory in last year’s MAAC Tournament. The Red Foxes have sent out many different lineups in the course of its losing streak, and have not won game with Jay Bowie out with concussion symptoms. Anell Alexis was given his first starting nod of the year at Loyola on Thursday, and the switch paid off with Alexis scoring 14 points on 6-10 from the field in 37 minutes. Alexis will likely start again tonight, along with probables Devin Price, Chavaughn Lewis, Phillip Lawrence and Adam Kemp.
