The Red Foxes will be attempting to avenge a 72-58 loss at Loyola on Jan. 17. Loyola. The Greyhounds shot well in that game, with a .604 percentage from the field and making five of seven three-point attempts. Dylon Cormier led all scorers with 19 points on 7-for-8 from the field for Loyola. Anell Alexis and Adam Kemp each had 14 points to lead the Red Foxes in the game.
On Thursday, Marist enjoyed the return of forward Jay Bowie, who hadn’t played since Dec. 22 due to concussion like symptoms. Bowie scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds against the Gaels. Adam Kemp also contributed a career-high 29 points and 16 rebounds. The highlight of the game was Chavaughn Lewis’ three-quarter court shot as time expired in the first overtime period to force a second one. Missing from the win, however, was senior guard Devin Price, who missed his third game of the season after reinjuring his ankle.
Today, The Red Foxes will have to defend against the Greyhounds’ prolific scorers. Cormier leads Loyola with 17 points per game, and graduate student big man Erik Etherly is right behind him with 15.1 per game. Three-point specialist Robert Olson also contributes 12.5. The Red Foxes have struggled this season with keeping teams to low percentages from the field, especially from beyond the arc. For Marist to pull off the win today, they will have to do a better job of that. It will also be looking for the balanced offensive effort seen in the game against Iona, which Jay Bowie’s return helps to facilitate. Last season at Marist, the Red Foxes beat Loyola 72-54.
