The last time the Red Foxes took on the Stags, it was arguably the lowest point of the entire season for Marist, as they were taken down 71-37. With the Red Foxes 4-2 in their last 6 games, and Fairfield is coming to Poughkeepsie on the heels of a 34-31 loss at Manhattan in one of the lowest scoring games of all time, Marist has a real chance to end the regular season on a positive note on what should be an entertaining senior night.
Record: 17-13 (9-8 MAAC)
Leading Scorer: Derek Needham 14.5 ppg
Last Game: 34-31 Loss at Manhattan
Record: 9-20 (4-12 MAAC)
Leading Scorer: Chavaughn Lewis 16.2 ppg
Last Game: 76-74 Win at Siena
It’s been a bit of tough sledding for Fairfield of late, having lost three of their last five games. Every game they have lost over this stretch has seen them score 50 points or under. The return of senior guard Desmond Wade to the lineup was not the answer for Fairfield, as his return to the lineup saw them score only 31 points. When they defeated Marist it was with their largest margin of defeat this season. However, Wade was one of the two leading scorers the last time these two teams met, with 13 points, behind only Josip Mikulic (16).
Marist will be looking to continue their recent stretch of strong play. The 112-point effort versus VMI in BracketBusters play brought out an energy in the team that few had seen and many had been searching for all season. Evidently, it carried over into another road conference victory for Marist as they went and beat Siena 76-74 on Friday night. Over this recent stretch the Red Foxes have gotten significant contributions from Devin Price, Chavaughn Lewis, and Adam Kemp.
If the Red Foxes are able to send their seniors out in McCann Arena on a positive note, it could build some significant momentum going into the MAAC tournament, which will start this Friday, when the Red Foxes will have their rubber match with Siena.
